Organo-functional silane

Current developments in combinatorial chemistry and rapid screening techniques promote new systems in the field of polymer-supported catalysts (cf. Section 3.1.3) [279]. A drawback for this technology is still the leaching tendency of the catalyst which is clearly shown in recycling experiments (cf. Section 3.1.1.3) [280]. Polycondensation of organo-functionalized silanes and polysiloxanes leads to covalent support of catalyst on the surface, also known as the sol-gel process [281-283]. Van Leeuwen and co-workers reported a phosphine ligand with a xanthene backbone which was functionalized with a propyltrialkoxysilane... 

As noted above, the best modern silicone gels now contain special organo-functional silane "coupling agents, which are able to form a strong, water resistant, chemical bond to the alumina and conductive surfaces, thereby preventing the formation of a liquid film on the adhesive which could provide a path for migration.

Such developments require different synthetic methods to form silicon-carbon bonds in a laboratory as well as an easy availability of organo and halogen functionalized silanes on a preparative or even industrial scale. 

Hydrolysis process with appropriate silane mixtures produces organosiloxanes with silicon- and organo-functional groups. 

From the above, it can be stated that the concentration of silanes in an aqueous solution affects the surface free energy and wettability of the silane coated fibers. The observed trends, however, depend on the organo-functionality of the silane compound as it affects the molecular composition and structure of the coatings and the nature of the interfacial interactions.
