Organisation and manning

The manning level of the Ymer platform is lower than on other comparable platforms. This is obtained by simple and functional design and by letting machinery suppliers take more responsibility for maintenance of their own [Pg.312]

Work similar to that carried out on Ymer is found in land-based industry as well. The operation and maintenance crew (23 persons) has similar responsibilities to those of e.g. an oil refinery. Drilling involves the hancUing of heavy tools and equipment and is to some extent comparable to construction work. The catering crew s responsibilities are very similar to those of the employees of an ordinary hotel. [Pg.313]

The main difference to land-based industry is the location of the workplaces about 100 km out in the North Sea, and the shift schedule following from that. All employees work offshore for two weeks in 12-hour shifts and after that they have three or four weeks off duty. [Pg.313]
