Optional Hazardous Materials Table

The identification number of the material specified in the Hazardous Materials Table or Optional Hazardous Materials Table (when authorized, as discussed earlier) on each side and each end if the tank has a capacity of 1,000 gallons or more, or on two opposing sides in association with the proper shipping name if the tank has a capacity of less than 1,000 gallons," and... 

The identification number specified in the Hazardous Materials Table or Optional Hazardous Materials Table (when authorized), " and... 

Except for packages not requiring a label, when the proper shipping name marked on a package is selected from the Optional Hazardous Materials Table (Section 172.102) and it does not appear in the Hazardous Materials Table (Section 172.101), the package must be labeled as provided in the Optional Table. 

Use of the Optional Hazardous Materials Table for purposes of describing a material under the regulations is presently authorized only for international shipments involving transportation by vessels. 

This requirement also applies when descriptions from the Optional Hazardous Materials Table in Sectin 172.102 are used.
