Optical applications, perfluorinated

The Co" complex [CoPcFig] have advantageous properties as electrocatalyst for the reduction of oxygen as compared to [CoPc] [39]. The Ru" complex [RuPcF, ] appeared to be an effective catalyst for the room tanperature oxidation of cycloalkanes [9]. Encapsulated in zeolite these species were used for catalytic oxidation of alkanes and alcohols [46]. In photoelectrochemical and (photo)conductivity studies it was shown that [ZnPcFig] behaves as n-type semiconductor in vacuo and photoconductor in the presence of oxygen [37, 47]. Due to its enhanced solubility in different solvents as compared to non-substituted [ZnPc] it has advantages for clinical application in photodynamic tumor therapy [11]. Perfluorinated In ", Ti and Zd phthalocyanines exhibit higher performance as optical limiters than non-fluorinated species [42]. [Pg.635]

The characteristics of fluoropolymers are summarized in Table 1. Thermal and chemical resistance is in general with most of plastics, elastomers and perfluorinated membranes. Weather resistance with the outdoor durability for more than 20 years is specific for fluorinated paint resins. Surface properties such as water and oil repellency are provided by acrylic polymer-based textile finishes and coatings with long-chain per-fluoroalkyl groups. Electrical properties as well as a low refractive index are important for optoelectronics applications like optical fibers. [Pg.67]

The combination of low optical losses over the entire WOC and high thermal, chemical, and mechanical stabilify must therefore be attained by the perfluorination of polyimides. In addition, perfluorination should deorease the dielectric constant, refractive index, and water absorption. These diaracteristics are desirable for optical and opto-electronic applications. This sftufy reports the first synthesis and the properties of perfluorinated polyimides. [Pg.305]
