Opium Liniment

Opium Liniment. Mix 2 ounces laudanum with G ounces. soap liniment, (See No, 4860.) It constitutes an excollont sotitb-ing application in rheumatism, sprains, and otiior painful directions. 

Hemlock Liniment. Oil of hemlock, 4 ounce cjunpbor, in gum, i ounce opium, 4 ounce spirits of wine, 1 pint. Mix. It is a flrst-rate rubefacient in inflammatory rheumatism, gout, quinsy, inflamed breast, white swellings, Sc,... 

Bates Anodyne Balsam, Soap liniment, 2 parts tincture of opium, 1 part. 

DdCcXieaa s Heuralgric Liniment. Mix together 4 grains extract of belladonna, 6 fluid ounces ammonia water, h fluid ounce oil of turpentine, h fluid ounce olive oil, and 2 fluid ouuces tincture of opium. Apply during the paroxvsnis. 

The external application of opium may alfo be ufed with advantage, and efpecially when the ftomach rejefls its internal ufe for this purpofe I have dire led the whole fpine of the back to be moiftened v/ith tintflure of opium with fuccefs in epileptic convulfions. And an extenfive fri Hon with a liniment confift-ing of fix grains of opium, well triturated with an ounce of hog s fat, has lately been faid to induce fleep in maniacal cafes, by Dr. L. Frank of Florence.
