Opacity small

Rather different circumstances are encountered when considering THz remote sensing of extraterrestrial sources. The major source of THz opacity in the Earth s atmosphere is water vapour, and from either high, dry mountain sites or from space there are windows in which the background becomes very small. Incoherent instruments which detect the faint emission from astronomical sources can therefore be considerably more sensitive than their laboratory... 

Fibrillated Fibers. Instead of extmding cellulose acetate into a continuous fiber, discrete, pulp-like agglomerates of fine, individual fibrils, called fibrets or fibrids, can be produced by rapid precipitation with an attenuating coagulation fluid. The individual fibers have diameters of 0.5 to 5.0 ]lni and lengths of 20 to 200 )Jm (Fig. 10). The surface area of the fibrillated fibers are about 20 m /g, about 60—80 times that of standard textile fibers. These materials are very hydrophilic an 85% moisture content has the appearance of a dry soHd (72). One appHcation is in a paper stmcture where their fine fiber size and branched stmcture allows mechanical entrapment of small particles. The fibers can also be loaded with particles to enhance some desired performance such as enhanced opacity for papers. When filled with metal particles it was suggested they be used as a radar screen in aerial warfare (73). 

Small air bubbles also scatter light because the refractive index of air is about 1.0, whereas the refractive index of most polymers is approximately 1.5. Air bubbles in films are sometimes usehil in increasing opacity but the efficiency in scattering light is much less than for mtile Ti02 because the difference in refractive index is much smaller. 

The fliix density to a small area of interest on the envelope of an emitter volume of any shape can be matched by that at the base of a hemispherical volume of some radius L, which is called the mean beam length. It is found that although the ratio of E to a characteristic dimension D of the shape varies with opacity, the variation is small enough for most engineering purposes to permit use of a constant ratio... 

In most GRPs debonding can occur after even a small number of cycles, even at modest levels. If the material is translucent, the buildup of fatigue damage can be observed. Jellies made with sunflower pectin show small air bubbles that could be responsible for the slight opacity observed with amidated pectin jellies are very transparent as it is also referred by several authors. 

The main technique that has been used for the measurement of opacity has been to prepare a standard disc of AB cement 1-0 mm thick and aged for 24 hours at 37 °C. This disc, contained in a small trough of water to prevent desiccation, is placed in a reflectometer on a black background. It is then illuminated with diffuse light and the amount of light reflected from it, is measured. The disc is then placed on a white background of 70% reflectivity, and the new amount of reflected light, measured. The contrast ratio 7 o/ o is defined as the Cp., opacity (Crisp et al., 1979). 

Composition Variations Li depletion is sensitive to interior opacities, which themselves depend on the stellar composition. Small star-to-star variations might cause an Li abundance scatter, which would grow towards lower masses. However, current limits on metallicity variations in the Pleiades (and other clusters) seem too small for this to be the dominant explanation of any scatter [38]. In addition, the correlation of Li-depletion with rotation is unexplained. 

The answer is a. (Hardman, pp 885-8870 Lovastatin should not be used in patients with severe liver disease. With routine use of lovastatin, serum transaminase values may rise, and in such patients the drug may be continued only with great caution. Lovastatin has also been associated with lenticular opacities, and slit-lamp studies should be done before and one year after the start of therapy There is no effect on the otic nerve. The drug is not toxic to the renal system, and reports of bone marrow depression are very rare There is a small incidence of myopathy, and levels of creatinine kinase should be measured when unexplained muscle pain occurs. Combination with cyclosporine or clofibrate has led to myopathy There is no danger in use with bile acid sequestrants. 

The refractive index of these pigments is about 1.5, which means that they give a transparent blue when used in paints and clear plastics. Opacity can be increased by adding small amounts of titanium dioxide. The principal failing of ultramarine is its lack of resistance to acid, which can even decompose the pigment if there is sufficient available. Coated grades are made with substantially improved acid resistance.
