Olivetoric acid

A solution of barium hydroxyde [Ba(OH)2] in water gives a blue colour with diploschistesic acid, and a saturated solution of barium peroxide (BaOj) in water with olivetoric acid gives a lemon yellow colour, turning to green after some minutes. [Pg.13]

The biogenesis of depsidones was first explained 12, 135) by the attractive theory that they arose from intramolecular phenolic oxidative coupling of / ara-depsides, and although at least nine / flfm-depside-depsidone pairs of corresponding structures exist they usually occur in widely separated lichen genera. However in several lichens 62, 63) the pair olivetoric acid (294) and physodic acid (295) actually co-occur. [Pg.168]

It would appear that the many higher orsellinic acid homologues such as olivetoric acid (9a) are derived from a single acetate-polymalonate chain in analogy with the fungal Qo acid (6-acetonyl-2,4,-dihydroxybenzoic acid) (Manchanda and Stickings, 1963). A condensation of a separately formed alkanoyl-SCoA unit with orsellinic acid appears less likely. [Pg.531]
