Oligosaccharides cation complexes

A typical, cationic and a typical, anionic polymer were debenzyl-ated with sodium and liquid ammonia, and purified and fractionated by ultrafiltration. The molecular weights of the polymers were 1,000 after debenzylation, corresponding approximately to hexamers. The 13C-n.m.r. spectrum of the anionic polymer indicated a high stereoregularity, but that of the cationic polymer was much more complex, as expected of an oligosaccharide having mixed anomeric-configura-tions. 

Using FD, it is thus possible to study not only the M" and MH" ions, but also complex ions of the [M + cation] type. Puzo et al. [239] used the presence of these intense peaks to determine the molecular weights of oligosaccharides, although the low abundance of fragment ions always renders the determination of their structures...
