FIGURE 3.11 (See color insert following page 336.) Optically active F -oligomer unit, built from eight optically inactive (W)-3.15 monomers. The calculated spectra of this octamer is in accordance with both the experimental VIS and CD spectra. (Reprinted from Foss, B.J. et al., Chem. Eur. J., 11, 4103, 2005b. With... [Pg.49]

Dr Joey Storer of the Dow Chemical Company generated the computer representations of PS and PCHE oligomer units depicted in Figure 23.6. [Pg.553]

At the ends of the polymer chains and at the ends of the short oligomer units (see for example the trimer molecule of Table 1) a bond defect structure is expected. For the acetylene structure of the polymer chain this is a carbene —C— with two free valence electrons and in the case of the butatriene structure this is a radical carbon atom —C= with one free valence electron. In both rases there is a reactive chain end, which allows reaction of the chain with the neighbouring monomer molecules. These reactive structures and a possible nonreactive structure are listed in Table 1 as examples of the trimer molecules. [Pg.55]

The products in the foregoing tabulation represent only the chemical demand for propylene. Much of the propylene generated in refineries is consumed for gasoline components (polygasoline in an oligomers unit) or is used as fuel in the refinery. The reason is that the combined production of propylene from olefins plants and refineries far exceeds the chemical demand. [Pg.219]

The previously mentioned interval of a variation D assumes that the process of formation of microgels proceeds by the mechanism cluster - cluster, i.e., the large microgels are formed out of smaller, ones instead of directly from oligomer units [5]. In this case for dimension D of the large microgel which is formed out of two smaller ones with dimensions Dj and D2 (Dj>D2) the following relationship [6] is correct ... [Pg.374]

There has been a report on a very interesting approach, which involves a sequential CNT fimctionalisation with one and a half repeat units of the polymer poly(p-phneyleneterephthalmide) (PPTA), Kevlar (Figure 4.5). This process results in PPTA oligomer units forming an organic sheath around the nanotubes which can be readily dispersed and integrated within the polymer PPTA to form a novel composite material. ... [Pg.81]

For nanocomposites produced by Method II, the oligomer unit of the silanecoupling agent is functionalized to react with the components of the polymer matrix within which the siloxane domains are to be generated. [Pg.472]

Molecular Conductivity, A wide variety of poly-triacetylenic materials have been synthesized (84) (see example in Figure 6). The basic material properties resemble those of polyacetylene. It is interesting to observe oligomer units of this material in conjunction with U02+ . The U02+ forms a complex with the oligomer unit at positions where the R oups branch from the main polymer chain (electrical neutrality is assured with additional ions present). The chain thus becomes a very heavy unit, with a sequence of U02 units positioned along the chain. It is possible to observe the individu polymer chains with Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) when these uranium dioxide ions are complexed with the chain. [Pg.14]
