Olanzapine other atypicals compared with

Fig. 11—40) and clinical features, not only as compared with clozapine (Fig. 11 — 37) but also as compared with risperidone (Fig. 11—39)- Olanzapine is atypical in that it generally lacks EPS, not only at moderate doses but usually even at high doses. Thus, olanzapine tends to be used for some of the most difficult cases of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and other types of psychosis in which good control of psychosis without EPS is still desired, yet aggressive treatment is required. On the other hand, this approach can be very expensive. [Pg.435]

Additionally, three other epidemiological studies have identified a higher risk of diabetes associated with olanzapine (Sernyak 777,778). The first of these studies included out-patients with schizophrenia treated over 4 months in 1999 (Sernyak 561). When patients who had taken atypical drugs (n = 22 648) were compared with... [Pg.626]

Other atypical antipsychotics commonly prescribed for treatment of autism include olanzapine, quetiapine, ziprasidone, and clozapine (Oswald and Sonenklar, 2007). Placebo-controlled trials of these agents in ASD populations have not been reported, with the exception of a small pilot study of olanzapine in which three of six children treated with olanzepine were rated as responders, compared to one of five in the placebo group (Hollander et al., 2006b). Open-label studies (reviewed by... [Pg.254]

Systematic reviews Amisulpride and other atypical antipsychotic drugs (olanzapine, risperidone, and ziprasidone) have been compared in people with schizophrenia and schizophrenia-like psychoses in an analysis of 10 short- to medium-term trials with 1549 participants [56 ]. The overall attrition rate was considerable (35%), with no significant difference between the groups. Amisulpride was as effective as olanzapine and risperidone and more effective than ziprasidone. Amisulpride caused less weight gain than risperidone and olanzapine. Olanzapine was associated with a greater rise in blood glucose. There were no differences in cardiac and extrapyrami-dal reactions. [Pg.61]

Systematic reviews Ziprasidone has been compared with other atypical antipsychotic drugs in a systematic review [151 ]. The rate of premature study discontinuation was very high (59% n=3361). Ziprasidone was less efficacious than amisulpride, olanzapine, and risperidone, but based on limited data there were no significant differences in tolerability between ziprasidone and amisulpride or clozapine. Ziprasidone produced less weight gain than olanzapine (median difference, -3.8 95% Cl = -4.7, -3.0 ... [Pg.75]
