Objectives for Assessing the Acute Toxicity of a Substance

Generally the objectives of investigating the acute toxicity are to find out (EC 2003)  

In relation to the second point above, it should be noted, that there is a general objective to move away from the induction of lethality in animal tests for animal welfare reasons.
