Drug-related problem is not a major subject in most university programmes in medicine or pharmacy. When there is no specific course, there is often no book covering the topic. In our view, as teachers at various university courses, there has been a shortage of literature that reflects the most important aspects of drug-related problems in the elderly. Medical practitioners, nurses and pharmacists, need to have this knowledge to be able to serve their patients in the best way. 

Challenges to adequately preparing our nations nurses include a gross lack of funding for disaster preparedness initiatives, an insufficient supply of nurse educators whose specialty focus is the domain of disaster nursing, compounded by a persistent shortage of nurse educators nationwide. 

There is a shortage of geriatric specialists, which will take time to be corrected if the 600 drugs under development are to be adequately researched. The rapid growth of sheltered self-care communal housing for active seniors, which guarantee healthcare up to terminal status, illustrates that seniors wish to stay out of nursing homes. Their expectation of the pharmaceutical industry is that it should provide them with medications which allow for an active old age. The industry has heard. 

Written prescription quality is another important factor, because often the nursing staff comes across poorly written and even illegible prescriptions that generate a potential for the occurrence of medication errors. Nurses workload and staffing level is also an important factor because the workload carried by the nurses and the shortage of nursing manpower affect the rate of occurrence of medication errors [23-25].
