Fig. 4.27. Expression of GPP labeled transcription factor in the salivary gland cells of Drosophila [62]. The generation of transcription factor molecules can be seen in the cytoplasmic reticulum as well as the distribution on the polytenic chromosomes in the nucleus. Image taken in a confocal laser scan microscope from C. Zeiss, modified for APD Imaging [6f]... Fig. 4.27. NMR microscopy is limited to nuclei with a favourable sensitivity, intrinsic line width due to T2 relaxation and repetition time allowed by spin-lattice relaxation (mainly H, Li, N, F, Na, Si and P). The nucleus imaged most often is the proton. Reasons are the sensitivity and the weak dipolar couplings between protons in a chemical group... [Pg.547]

Somatostatin. Figure 1 Somatostatin-like im mu noreactivity in neurons of the periventricular hypothalamic nucleus of the rat. Coronal brain cryostat sections have been processed for im mu nohistochemistry and sequentially incubated with a primary monoclonal mouse anti human somatostatin antibody and secondary antimouse antibody conjugated with the fluorescence-dye Cy-3. Images have been taken with a Zeiss Axioplan fluorescence microscope. Scale bar, 100 pM. [Pg.1148]

Consider a hydrogen atom with its nucleus at the origin located above the surface of a conducting metal at the position d = (0,0,d) and an electron at r = (x,y,z) (Fig. 6.1).The nucleus and the electron both induce image charges in the metal equal to... [Pg.216]

Mysteries such as this attract young people to science. Nuclear physics, however, tends to turn people off Nuclear power plant malfunctions and atomic bombs are frightening. Nevertheless, humankind has greatly benefited from scientific investigations of the nucleus. Science s hard-won knowledge of the atomic nucleus is used extensively in medicine, from imaging procedures such as positron emission tomography (PET) to radiation therapy, which has saved the lives of many cancer patients. [Pg.37]

The centric scan, one-dimensional, DHK SPRITE measurement was used to study the ingress of lithium. This measurement technique was selected due to the low absolute sensitivity of 7Li (27% of [36]), the small amounts that are present and the short signal lifetimes (bulk Tx of 10 ms and T2 of 120 ps). In addition to the robust, quantitative nature of this technique, lithium is a quadrupolar nucleus and interpretation of the image intensity is more complex than spin % nuclei. Once again Eq. (3.4.2) is quantitatively correct for even quadrupolar nuclei due to the fact the longitudinal steady state does not influence the image intensity. [Pg.301]
