Nuclear fuel resources depleted

The use of nuclear power has been a topic of debate for many years. Nuclear fuel represents a resource for generating energy weU into the future, whereas economically recoverable fossil fuel reserves may become depleted. Worker exposure, injuries, and fataHties in nuclear fuel mining are reportedly far less compared to those associated with recovery and handling of fossil fuels. Potential hazards associated with transporting and storing radioactive wastes do exist, however. [Pg.1]

Kok, K.D. 2003. Used nuclear fuel/depleted uranium Is it a waste or a resource Proceedings of the 15th International Conference on Environmnetal Remediation and Radiactive Waste Management, ICEM 2013, Paper 96001, Sept. 8-12, 2013, Brussels, Belgium. [Pg.464]

Unfortunately, the burning of gasoline and fuel oil pollutes the air and depletes the petroleum resources needed for lubricants and chemical feedstocks. Solar and nuclear heat sources cause less pollution, and they do not deplete these important natural resources. Facilities that use these more environment-friendly heat sources are currently more expensive than those that rely on the combustion of alkanes. [Pg.100]
