Northeastern Cape

Almost as soon as the island of hydrogen appeared above the waves, the Northeastern Cape of helium appeared. In the violence of the first three minutes, hydrogen atoms smashed together, such was the tumult and density of the primeval storm, and melded into helium, and the first region of the kingdom s mainland rose above the waves. Seen as a landscape of cosmic abundance, the... [Pg.65]

The second chemical squabble is in the far North, and concerns the location of the offshore Northern Island of hydrogen. To those who do not like offshore islands, there is the problem of where to put it on the mainland. This is the war of the Big-endians versus the Little-endians. Big-endians fight to tow the island ashore to form a new Northwestern Cape, immediately north of lithium and beryllium and across from the Northeastern Cape of helium. There are good chemical reasons for doing this, and good reasons (as we shall see) based on the internal structures of these atoms, which are all closely related structurally. But it is also a little awkward, because hydro-... [Pg.90]

Costs for constructing reefs are about 3.50 per tire. This cost is somewhat offset by charging 1 per tire in Ocean County to accept tires or 25.25 per ton to accept tires in Cape May County. This compares to the average of 45.25 per ton to landfill the tires in the northeastern United States. Since haulers in Cape May County save money by taking tires to the reef builders, tire supply is not a problem. In Ocean County, costs are minimized by using prison labor for building reefs and a county owned barge takes the reefs to the dump site (15). [Pg.39]

Figure 8 Summary of the ratio of CaCOs dissolved and organic material oxidized for bottom chamber deployments in the northeastern Pacific, Ontong-Java Plateau, Ceara Rise, Cape Verde Plateau, northwestern Atlantic continental rise and California borderland basins (R. A. Jahnke and D. B. Jahnke, 2002). The absence of measurable alkalinity fluxes from high-CaCOs sites bathed in supersaturated bottom water appears to be inconsistent with observations...
