Noradrenaline drugs preventing

Bupropion A drug that inhibits the presynaptic neuronal reuptake of both dopamine and noradrenaline which is used as an antidepressant and to prevent relapse following smoking cessation. [Pg.238]

Tyramine acts as an indirect sympathomimetic to cause release of catecholamines from nerve terminals. It is present in a number of foods mature cheese, yeast extracts, some red wines, hung game, pickled herrings, broad bean pods. Normally, MAO-A in the intestinal mucosa will metabolise tyramine absorbed from the gut. In patients on the older MAOls, considerable amounts of tyramine will enter the circulation and this will lead to increased release of catecholamines stored in nerve terminals because the MAOI prevents their metabolism. For patients on RIMA drugs, high concentrations of tyramine can compete for MAO-A, thus mitigating some of the effects, and MAO-B is still available to metabolise noradrenaline (norepinephrine). MAO-B, however, has relatively much less effect on 5-HT and thus 5-HT function is still enhanced. [Pg.177]

Ribbing s disease, which is characterized by multiple epiphyseal dystrophy. In a randomized, double-blind comparison of amlodipine (10 mg/day) and enalapril (20 mg/day) in 50 patients for 6 months, both drugs significantly reduced blood pressure, but amlodipine increased heart rate and plasma concentrations of noradrenaline and angiotensin II (7). These undesired effects make ACE inhibitors a better choice for prevention of cardiac dysfunction. [Pg.175]

By preventing the release of noradrenaline from adrenergic neurones, guanethidine and other adrenergic neurone blockers cause a temporary drug-induced sympathectomy , which is also accompanied by hypersensitivity of the receptors. This results in the increased response to the stimulation of the receptors by directly-acting sympathomimetics such as noradrenaline and phenylephrine. [Pg.892]
