Non Conventional Methods of Peptide Bond Formation

The remarkable facile synthesis of proteins in the ribosomes of cells seems to act as a stimulus for organic chemists to invent novel alternatives in peptide 

Acid catalyzed rearrangement of O-aminoacyl salicylamides (Brenner et al. 1955) 

With the utilization of chiral starting materials it became possible to achieve induced asymmetric synthesis and obtain peptides in enantiomerically pure form. 

An equally interesting and perhaps more practical approach to coupling is the oxidation-reduction method (Mukaiyama et al. 1968) 

These procedures demonstrate that for inventive minds peptide bond formation is not a closed chapter.
