2 Nomenclature, Abbreviations, and Coordination Chemistry of Metal Porphyrinates 

The coordination chemistry of porphyrins can be subdivided in equatorial and axial coordination chemistry as written in Eqs. (1) and (2) and depicted with the coordination types given in Fig. 3, i.e. square-planar A, square-pyramidal B, or distorted-octahedral C the latter is illustrated by formula 1 [7, 8]. 

These reactions may be accompanied by redox reactions. The letter code ML(P)L of the octahedral coordination type C, or formula 1, L written
