When a coarse grid is used, wall functions are used for imposing boundary conditions near the walls (Section 11.2.3.3). The nondimensional wall distance should be 30 < y < ]Q0, where y = u,y/p. We cannot compute the friction velocity u. before doing the CFD simulation, because the friction velocity is dependent on the flow. However, we would like to have an estimation of y" to be able to locate the first grid node near the wall at 30 < y < 100. If we can estimate the maximum velocity in the boundary layer, the friction velocity can be estimated as n, — 0.04rj, . . After the computation has been carried out, we can verify that 30 [Pg.1032]

Ganglia are relay systems set between the CNS and end organs. Ganglia in the SANS system are arranged in a series of parallel nodes adjacent to the vertebral column. In contrast, PANS ganglia are usually located in the innervated organ. 

SO that may differ from / only at the grid nodes adjacent to the boundary points, that is, for i = 1 and i = N — 1. 

With conventional MR imaging techniques, lymph nodes are visualized vdien they have a size of at least 1.0-1.5 cm [10]. Optimized imaging techniques (body phased-array coil, 512 matrix, 3D acquisition) or state-of-the-art spiral or multislice CT scanners depict lymph nodes as small at about 3-5 mm [7,8]. These techniques usually allow good evaluation of the lymph nodes adjacent to the straight great vessels (Fig. 15.1). 

The Gaussian distribution allows smoothing of the transference of forces effect near the surface. Smoothing the field of forces has the effect of spreading the influence of an immersed boundary on the adjacent nodes of the mesh. With the radial distance d x) of each node adjacent to an immersed contour, one obtains the Gaussian distribution coefficient.
