Nitrogen walk

Two pathways appear to be implicated in the transposition reactions of 3-cyano-l-methylpyrazole (64). The first, which leads to the imidazole (65), is believed to involve 2,5-bonding followed by a nitrogen walk , whereas the second proceeds by way of the azirine (66) and yields the isomeric imidazole (67) both processes are illustrated in Scheme 6. Sensitization and quenching experiments... [Pg.432]

Other routes to fluoroimidazoles have been reported, some of which are confined to specific structural motifs. For example, methyl and fluorine substituents were used in a study of the phototranspositions of the 1-methylpyrazole ring. The nitrogen walk mechanism produced ring-fluorinated imidazoles from the ring-fluorinated pyrazoles (Fig. 3.55). ° ... [Pg.121]

Other possible initial design sets included nitrogen walk, nitrogen, oxygen, and carbon switches, scaffold hopping [63], ring expansion, and contractions. Barltrop and Day observed that the irradiation of 1,5-dimethyl-3-(trifluoromethyl) pyrazole gave exclusively l,2-dimethyl-4-(trifluoromethyl)imidazole in 41 % yield (Scheme 48) [62a], Similar phototranspositions ( nitrogen walk ) of iV-methyl-3-fluoropyrazoles to Af-methyl-2-fluoroimidazole and A -methyl-4-fluoropyrazoles to Al-methyl-4-fluoroimidazole were also observed [62b], A mixture of iV-methyl-4-fluoroimidazole (23 %) and Al-methyl-2-fluoroimidazole ( 3 %) was obtained in the phototransposition chemistry of A-methyl-5-fluoropyrazole. [Pg.352]

Radical reactions feature in a number of related systems. The photochemical decomposition of aromatic azides in the presence of ethanethiol results not in the usual ring expansion to 2-substituted-3//-azepines but in the formation of thioethoxy-compounds. Phenyl azide gives 2-ethylthio-l-aminobenzene (190), which is the result of a 1,2-nitrogen walk by the azide a-N (Scheme 29) demonstrated in the corresponding reaction of p-toyl azide. [Pg.114]

As well as testing the reactants, as described in Section 22.1, we should also test auxiliary materials. For example, nitrogen trifluoride reacted with silica, which was used as a drying agent. Whenever a new batch of silica was installed, there was a rise in temperature, which the operators never reported and in time accepted as normal. They were walking along the precipice described in Section 22.1, and one day the temperature rise got out of control. [Pg.387]

Tetrazines (39) react with cyclopropenes (149) via the unisolated tricyclic intermediates (150) to form the diazanorcaradienes (151) by loss of nitrogen. Three reactions of the diazanorcaradienes have been observed (1) opening of the ring to give the 5H-diazepines (152) (2) isomerization by the walk mechanism to the diazanorcaradienes (153), which may be transformed into the 4//-diazepines (154) (3) reaction with another molecule... [Pg.550]

In hospitals, at high altitudes, and on space walks, pure oxygen is used for life-support systems. Even greater supplies of oxygen are required by the steel and chemical manufacturing industries, where it is used in many reactions. Nitrogen, the most abundant gas in air, also has many industrial purposes. [Pg.354]

Nitrides are fascinating materials. Although the air we breathe is 78% nitrogen, essentially 100% of the land we walk upon is made of oxides. It would take an encyclopaedia to review oxide crystal chemistry, on the other hand we can present here a comprehensive review of solid state nitrides. Indeed until recently, solid state nitride chemistry was largely neglected, with the notable exception of the work of Juza and collaborators in the immediate post-war decades. [Pg.309]

It was subsequently found that a nitrogen-fixing bacterium, Klebsiella aewgenes, existed in the intestinal tract. It is presumed that the sweet potato diet promoted the growth of these bacteria, which are capable of synthesizing essential amino acids, and the human host thereby becomes a walking legume. ... [Pg.343]

Beckman makes electrochemically based semiautomatic Glucose and Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN) Analyzers. They walk the operator through the manually initiated steps required. The same company makes a combination Glucose/BUN Analyzer, the System I, which is more highly automated. [Pg.799]
