Nitrogen tetr oxide

Bipropellant. A rocket proplnt consisting of two unmixed chemicals(usually liquid) fed into the combustion chamber separately. One of the chemicals is a fuel(such as alcohol, aniline, hydrazine, etc), while the other is an oxidizeif such as liq O, nitric acid, hydrogen peroxide or nitrogen tetr-oxide). The energy released on combustion of fuel operates a propulsive rocket unit Refs l)warren( 1958), 13-14 2)Rocket Encycl (1959), 43-4... [Pg.126]

Mercury di-o-tolyl may be j repared by the sodium amalgam method (see mercury diphenyl, Method 5). In this case 8 per cent, amalgam is used, and the yield is about 33 per cent. Tlie compound forms quadratic crystals from benzene, M.])t. 108° C. B.pt. 219 C. at 14 mm. The reactions of mercury di-o-tolyl with tlie trichlorides oi boron, phosphorus, and arsenic, also with nitrogen tri- and tetr-oxides, are similar to those described under mercury diphenyl (p. 74). [Pg.78]

The pure compound crjrstallises in needles, M.pt. 288 C., which are soluble in benzene, xylene, or chloroform, less soluble in alcohol, and insoluble in water. Mercury di-p-tolyl gives the same type of products as mercury diphenyl (see table, p. 74) when it reacts with halogens, halogen acids, mercuric chloride, boron or arsenic trichlorides, phosphorus trichloride, silicon tetrachloride, nitrogen tri- and tetr-oxides, sulphur, selenium, and tellurium. ... [Pg.79]

All of the common 5-membered aromatic nitrogen heterocycles are quite acidic with pKa s ranging from 16.2 in the case of indole (comparable to methanol) to 5 in the case of tetrazole (comparable to acetic acid). Indoles and pyrroles devoid of electron withdrawing substituents are also very susceptible to electrophilic attack and oxidation whilst imidazole, 1,2,4-triazole and tetr azole are also quite basic. In the case of imidazole, a pKan = 7 corresponds to 50% of the... [Pg.531]

Nitrogen heterocycles continue to be valuable reagents and provide new synthetic approaches such as NITRONES FOR INTRAMOLECULAR -1,3 - DIPOLAR CYCLOADDITIONS HEX AH YDRO-1,3,3,6-TETR AMETHYL-2,1 -BENZISOX AZOLINE. Substituting on a pyrrolidine can be accomplished by using NUCLEOPHILIC a-sec-AMINOALKYLATION 2-(DI-PHENYLHYDROXYMETHYL)PYRROLIDINE. Arene oxides have considerable importance for cancer studies, and the example ARENE OXIDE SYNTHESIS PHENANTHRENE 9,10-OXIDE has been included. An aromatic reaction illustrates RADICAL ANION ARYLATION DIETHYL PHENYLPHOSPHONATE. [Pg.236]
