Nitrogen solid crystal structure

Tetraethylammonium tetrakis(tetracarbonylferrio)antimonate(3 — ), [Et4N]3-[SbFe4(CO)16], is a red, powdery solid that may be stored indefinitely under nitrogen. The crystal structure has been reported and is isomorphous to the bismuth analogue.4 The characteristic IR bands are found at (MeCN, cm-1) 1971, 1910, and 1882. A maximum is observed in the visible region of the absorption spectrum (MeCN) at 480 nm (e, 2800). [Pg.222]

Interstitial Solid Solutions Interstitial solid solutions involve occupation of a site by introduced ions or atoms, which is normally empty in the crystal structure, and no ions or atoms are left out. Many metals form interstitial solid solutions in which small atoms (e.g., hydrogen, carbon, boron, nitrogen) enter empty interstitial sites within the host structure of the metal. Palladium metal is well known for its ability to absorb an enormous volume of hydrogen gas, and the product hydride is an interstitial sohd solution of formula PdH, 0 0.7, in which hydrogen atoms occupy... [Pg.424]

The interaction of beryllium with nitrilotripropionic acid (H3ntp) has been investigated in some detail (244). This acid forms a strong complex (log Kt = 9.24) that can be isolated as a solid. The crystal structure of the anion [Be(ntp)] is shown in Fig. 23. The structure confirms the coordination of the nitrogen atom along with an oxygen atom from each carboxyl group. [Pg.154]

The sodium and potassium salts of 11 and 12 and their hydrates have been synthesized and characterized . The solid state structures of anhydrous potassium salt of 12 and its hydrate have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction (Figure 21). Each structure has nearly planar N2O2 groups arranged as blades of a propeller around the main C-H axis. The three blades have similar helicities, or relative orientations. Helicity can be viewed as the relative orientation of the oxygen of the carbon-bound nitrogen with respect to the plane defined by the HCN atoms for the individual blades . ... [Pg.678]

Crystal structures of the bismuth molybdate and of the mixed iron and cobalt solid solution molybdate samples were controlled by X-ray diffraction (10). The chemical compositions of the samples were determined by atomic absorption and their surface areas measured by nitrogen adsorption using the BET method. [Pg.263]

The hydroxyethyl group is not coordinated in the HEDTA dimer, at least in the solid state. The crystal structure of its ethylenediamonium salt (56) shows that each iron is coordinated by the two nitrogen and the three carboxyl oxygens of HEDTA, and the two irons are connected by an 0X0 bridge instead of a double hydroxy bridge. The oxo bridging was predicted (28) from the infrared spectra of several salts of the dimer, which... [Pg.130]
