Nitrogen orbital diagram

Show the bond structure of the nitrogen molecule by using an orbital diagram, electron dot structure and line representation. [Pg.32]

Construct the molecular orbital diagram for diatomic nitrogen, N2. Is this molecule paramagnetic or diamagnetic ... [Pg.22]

The molecular orbital diagram for the nitrogen monoxide molecule is shown in Figure 4.6. The orbitals are produced from the same pairs of atomic orbitals as in the cases of the homonuclear diatomic molecules of Section 4.2. [Pg.74]

The orbital diagram for. (//-hybridized nitrogen is the same as for. (//-hybridized carbon, except nitrogen has one more electron. [Pg.8]

You may have noticed that in the section on quantum numbers, each sublevel (e.g., 2p) is composed of a certain number of orbitals. Orbitals can only hold up to two electrons, so the 2p sublevel is actually composed of 3 orbitals. However, if you look at the electron configurations of the 2p, for example, all of the 2p orbitals are summarized in one number—the total number of electrons in all 2p orbitals. Therefore, in nitrogen you have 2p3, but there is no description about where those electrons are within the 2p sublevel. Orbital diagrams provide us with a useful way to map the orbitals within individual orbitals. In these diagrams, boxes (or sometimes circles) are used to represent individual orbitals. Arrows are used to represent electrons, and the heads of the arrows indicate the spin. In Figure 4.9, note the orbital diagrams for the electrons in elements 1-10. [Pg.72]

Describe the bonding of the chlorine bridges in this dimer in molecular orbital terms. 8-6 BF can be obtained by reaction of BF3 with boron at 1850° C and low pressure BF is highly reactive but can be preserved at liquid nitrogen temperature (77 K). Prepare a molecular orbital diagram of BF. How would the molecular orbitals of BF differ from CO, with which BF is isoelectronic ... [Pg.296]

PROBLEM 1.20 Construct an orbital diagram like that of Figure 1.20 for nitrogen in ammonia, assuming sp hybridization. In what kind of orbital is the unshared pair What orbital overlaps are involved in the N—H bonds ... [Pg.37]

Nitrogen is in group 5A, so it has five valence electrons. Its orbital diagram and electron-dot symbol are... [Pg.451]

Using boxes for the orbitals, write out the orbital diagrams for (a) nitrogen, (b) fluorine, and (c) vanadium. [Pg.238]

State Hund s rule in your own words, and show its application in the orbital diagram of the nitrogen atom. [Pg.265]
