Nitric oxide boiling point

The metal is slowly oxidised by air at its boiling point, to give red mercury(II) oxide it is attacked by the halogens (which cannoi therefore be collected over mercury) and by nitric acid. (The reactivity of mercury towards acids is further considered on pp. 436, 438.) It forms amalgams—liquid or solid—with many other metals these find uses as reducing agents (for example with sodium, zinc) and as dental fillings (for example with silver, tin or copper). [Pg.435]

Saccharic acid. Use the filtrate A) from the above oxidation of lactose or, alternatively, employ the product obtained by evaporating 10 g. of glucose with 100 ml. of nitric acid, sp. gr. 1 15, until a syrupy residue remains and then dissolving in 30 ml. of water. Exactly neutralise at the boiling point with a concentrated solution of potassium carbonate, acidify with acetic acid, and concentrate again to a thick syrup. Upon the addition of 50 per cent, acetic acid, acid potassium saccharate sepa rates out. Filter at the pump and recrystaUise from a small quantity of hot water to remove the attendant oxahc acid. It is necessary to isolate the saccharic acid as the acid potassium salt since the acid is very soluble in water. Carbonyl Nitric Oxides. Another group of metal-carbonyl complexes, worthy of investigation as CVD precursors, consists of the carbonyl nitric oxides. In these complexes, one (or more) CO group is replaced by NO. An example is cobalt nitrosyl tricarbonyl, CoNO(CO)3, which is a preferred precursor for the CVD of cobalt. It is a liquid with a boiling point of 78.6°C which decomposes at 66°C. Nickel was first isolated in 1751, and a relatively pure metal was prepared in 1804. In nature, nickel is found primarily as oxide and sulfide ores (USPHS 1977). It has high electrical and thermal conductivities and is resistant to corrosion at environmental temperatures between -20°C and +30°C (Chau and Kulikovsky-Cordeiro 1995). Nickel, also known as carbonyl nickel powder or C.I. No. 77775, has a CAS number of 7440-02-0. Metallic nickel is a hard, lustrous, silvery white metal with a specific gravity of 8.9, a melting point of about 1455°C, and a boiling point at about 2732°C.
