The phase diagram for the copper-antimony system is shown on the next page. The phase diagram contains the intermetallic compound marked "X" on the diagram. Determine the chemical formula of this compound. The atomic weights of copper and antimony are 63.54 and 121.75 respectively. 

Only the major cations are shown in the above formulae, even though each ore contains all of the rare earths in various proportions. One commercial chemical process used for faitlAl separation of the rare earths follows this sequence of steps, as shown in 6.8.4., presented on the next page. 

Unlike a molecular compound, an ionic compound consists of a lattice of positive and negative ions held together by mutual attraction. The chemical formula for an ionic compound represents one formula unit—the simplest ratio of the compound s positive ions (cations) and its negative ions (anions). The chemical formula for aluminum sulfate, an ionic compound consisting of aluminum cations and polyatomic sulfate anions, is written as shown on the next page. 

Carefully read the steps about how to write a chemical formula on page 158. Next, scan the different tables throughout the chapter. Write down the formulas for substances that appear often. Try to determine the elements in their makeup.
