Next Generation SOFC Materials

There are two main strategies for the development of next generation SOFC materials engineering solutions and materials solutions. In the following sections both approaches will be discussed and contrasted, with potential future directions for SOFC development outlined. [Pg.182]

Whilst SOFCs have developed significantly over the past few decades the main focus of materials development has been on the fluorite- and per-ovskite-based functional components. Each of the materials selections discussed above has deficiencies and there is now considerable effort directed towards the development of novel materials and structures with better performance for next generation SOFCs. In the following sections the potential choices available for low temperature electrolytes and cathodes and sulfur tolerant anodes will be discussed. [Pg.42]

Materials for Next Generation SOFCs relates two important strategies for improving fuel cell performance. The first section covers a nano-engineering solution, to produce thin layers to get surface (interfacial) ionic conductivity. The second section covers the use of new electrode materials based on Perovskite-related phases, Ruddleston-Popper phases, and double and triple perovskites. [Pg.235]

SOFC fuel cells. R D activities will be concentrated on research on new materials and designs fora next fuel cell generation with lower production cost. Germany reported that the following R D measures are crucial for the next generation of SOFC ... [Pg.135]
