Neural Network Applications and Issues

Neural networks can be very efficient in solving certain types of problem. Some of the applications of neural networks will therefore be discussed in this section. 

As discussed before, there are numerous applications of neural networks, some specific ones 

Neural networks cannot be successfully developed without taking a number of important issues into account. They will be discussed in this section. 

Fault detection. Fault detection is concerned with the detection of abnormal events, for example the failure of an instrument in a process plant. Application examples are given, among others, by Fuente and Vega (1999) and Guglilmi et al. (1995). 

Basheer et al. (2000) give a comprehensive treatment of neural network issues, such as data preprocessing, normalization, network initialization, etc. Some of the issues merrtioned in this section are based on this comprehensive review.
