Nony et al. 1980 Zwimer-Baier and Neumann 1994). Some of the methods have been shown to be suitable for the determination of the aeetylated metabolites (Bowman and Nony 1981 Nony and Bowman 1980 Nony et al. 1980). The methods of Bimer et al. (1990), Joppieh-Kuhn et al. (1997), and Zwimer-Baier and Neumann (1994) permit the analysis of hemoglobin adduets of 3,3 -diehlorobenzidine and its monoacetyl metabolite. Limits of deteetion for 3,3 -diehlorobenzidine in mine and semm were reported to be as low as 1 to 5 ppb (Bowman and Rushing 1981 Hoffman and Sehmidt 1993 Roberts and Rossano 1982), with detectable concentrations of the aeetylated metabolites somewhat higher. Most of these studies were performed with samples from rats the methods should be tested to determine if they are applieable to samples of human origin. In addition, the levels of these biomarkers associated with exposures to 3,3 -dichlorobenzidine of toxicological concern should be defined in order to increase their utility. [Pg.142]

Gustav Robert Kirchhoff (1824-1887) first formulated and published the laws named after him for electrical networks when he was still a student at university in Konigsberg. In 1850 he was nominated professor in Breslau and in 1854 he became a professor in Heidelberg. It was here that he worked with R. Bunsen for over 10 years and carried out investigations into the emission and absorption of radiation. Their results became known as Kirchhoff s radiation laws and as Bunsen-Kirchhoff spectral analysis. In 1875 he became Professor of Theoretical Physics of the University of Berlin. Alongside his teacher F. Neumann, Kirchhoff was a founder of mathematical (theoretical) physics in Germany. [Pg.524]

Greek inhabitant of the crumbling Ottoman Empire. In fact, ZaharofTs origins are, like Reilly s, a mystery. At one time or another, he claimed to have been bom in Constantinople, Odessa, or the Anatolian town of Mugla and in 1849, 1850 or 1851 (McCormick, 1965 16-17 Rochat-Cenise, 1943 10). One biographer, Robert Neumann, described the situation thusly ... [Pg.224]

While most (if not all) textbooks on colloids and interfaces limit their discussion about interfacial theories to Girifalco-Good and Fowkes/Owens-Wendt, the discussion is hardly complete without presenting the two most modem, possibly most widely used and certainly most controversial, theories, the acid-base theory of Carel van Oss, Manoj Chaudhury and Robert Good (from now on called here van Oss-Good) and the equation of state approach of A. Wilhelm Neumann. These theories, already presented in Chapter 3 (Equations 3.18 and 3.25 and 3.26), have resulted to extensive discussions — not the least between their developers, often with rather direct and not always entirely poUtc statements about the capabilities and limitations. Numerous articles have been published about these two theories both by their developers and by others. Thus, the pertinent hterature is enormous but we attempt a short review here. [Pg.331]
