Negative electrode mesh

The negative electrode mesh is pleated and rolled into a cylinder. [Pg.149]

Mark the fold points for the pleats on each side of the mesh. The fold points should be % apart. [Pg.149]

When all the pleats have been made, fold the tab back along the edge of the main piece towards the pleats and crease the fold, then finish the tab by folding as shown above. [Pg.151]

Fold the end of the tab extension back on itself. Leave just enough length so that when you place the tab extension in the PVC cap, there is enough room to reach in between the bottom of the pleats and the PVC cap, and screw the nut down firmly on the tab. [Pg.153]

You will need six 8-32 nuts and one stainless steel fender washer. [Pg.154]

Slip the negative electrode mesh tab onto threaded rod. [Pg.154]

Push the mesh tab and the nickel tab down the rod, keeping the rod centered in the negative electrode. [Pg.154]

Cut the monel wire mesh for the negative electrode to dimensions as shown in the diagram on the previous page. This will give you a 6"x 93/8" piece with a /4" wide... [Pg.109]

One of the battery prototypes for electric vehicles had a volume of 3201 and mass of 820 kg. The positive electrode is manufactured from FeS with the addition of C0S2. A few layers of the active material alternating with graphitized fabric are placed into a basket of molybdenum mesh welded to the central molybdenum current collector. The positive electrode is wrapped into a two-layer separator. The inner layer consists of Zr02 fabric and the outer layer of BN fabric. The negative electrode consists of a lithium-silicon alloy in the porous nickel matrix. The container and the cover are manufactured from stainless steel and electrically connected to the negative electrode. The prototype was drained with current up to 50 A, and the specific power was as high as 53 W/kg (Martino FJ et al, 1978). [Pg.120]

Both types of lithium battery have a spiral-wound electrode pack, made up from rectangular foil electrodes. Lithium foil is rolled on to an expanded metal mesh current collector as the negative electrode, and is separated from the similarly supported cathode by a polypropylene separator. [Pg.91]

This type of battery has a spiral-wound electrode pack, made from rectangular foil electrodes. Lithium foil is rolled on to an expanded metal mesh current collector as the negative electrode, and is separated from the similarly supported cathode by a polypropylene separator. Two types of cell construction are used jelly-roll electrodes in crimp-sealed or hermetically sealed cylindrical cells, and large 20-100Ah 12V flat-plate electrodes in large reserve batteries. It is a relatively high-pressure system and cells must have salety vents to avoid explosion in the event of accidental incineration (see Part 2 for further details of construction). [Pg.161]

The next step is to put some silicone around the rim of the 1" cap that seats the negative mesh electrode. Take a 1" rubber o-ring, slip it over the mesh and slide it down to the 1" cap, seating it on the cap. The rubber o-ring will steady and keep the mesh electrode straight. It is important for the mesh electrode to stand straight up and not be seated at an angle. [Pg.116]
