Sample Collection. Samples from Minnesota, Iowa, and Nebraska were supplied by the Minnesota Department of Agriculture, the U.S. Geological Survey, and the Nebraska Department of Health, respectively. All samples were stored at 4°C in glass jars sealed with lids lined with aluminum foil until analysis. Particulate material was allowed to settle out before analysis. Just before extraction, the pH and conductivity were determined (3).
