Nausea ketamine

In very large quantities, DXM can cause effects similar to those of ketamine and PCP because these drugs affect similar sites in the brain. These effects can include impaired motor function, numbness, nausea/vomiting, and increased heart rate and blood pressure. On rare occasions, hypoxic brain damage—caused by severe respiratory depression and a lack of oxygen to the brain—has occurred due to the combination of DXM with decongestants often found in the medication. [Pg.240]

Multiple, repeated dosing of ketamine is common by most users, as is its combination with other drugs. Too many bumps in a row or within a small window of time frequently knocks users out cold, putting them into the anesthetic condition for which the drug was manufactured. This K-hole can last up to two hours or more, depending on the dose. The K-hole is frequently preceded by nausea or vomiting. [Pg.273]

Ketamine-I-morphine has been compared with morphine in intravenous patient-controlled analgesia [132 ]. In seven studies there were higher frequencies of adverse reactions (including nausea, pruritus, sleepiness, desaturation, and urinary retention) when morphine was used alone four studies did not report any difference. [Pg.160]

Ketamine In 81 patients undergoing abdominal surgery, who were randomized to intraoperative and postoperative ketamine (0.5 mg/kg bolus - - 2 micrograms/kg/minute for 48 hours), intraoperative ketamine only (0.5 mg/kg bolus - - 2 micrograms/kg/ minute), or placebo, ketamine significantly reduced morphine requirements and the frequency of nausea [121 ]. [Pg.218]

A randomised double-blind placebo-controlled trial [33 ] investigating ketamine in the management of cancer pain demonstrated no improvement with escalating doses of ketamine (100, 300 and 500 mg) delivered subcutaneously over 24 h. There was, however, a statistically significant increase in adverse events in the ketamine group. This included cognitive disturbances, dizziness, site irritation, somnolence and nausea. [Pg.146]
