Nature of the observed tunneling spectra

In planning and interpreting STS experiments, it is essential to understand the nature of the local tunneling spectra obtained by an STM. 

In Chapter 2, we have obtained the general expression for the tunneling current under a bias V  

In the following, we discuss some general features of the tunneling spectra in terms of Equations (14.2) and (14.3).
