National Board for Professional

Additional efforts in the K-12 area include P G s financial support for the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards and my personal participation in the Ohio Mathematics and Science Coalition. The latter is an independent organization committed to continuous, systemic, and sustainable improvement in pre-K-16 mathematics and science education for Ohio s nearly 2 million students. 

The first involves educational reform. At the national level, we are participating actively on the National Board for Professional Teacher Certification. At the state level, we have various initiatives in localities where Du Pont has a significant presence. The most advanced of these is work done to upgrade management and leadership skills of school administrators and superintendents in the Texas school system. This is now being extended to several other states through the Department of Education s "Leadership in Educational Administration Development" (LEAD) program.

One of the first considerations in respect of sponsorship of healthcare professionals attending international congresses, in terms of travel, accommodation or congress registration fees, is whether the authorities in the health professional s country require notification of this sponsorship. This is true in France, for example, where the national medical board, Consiel national de l Ordre des Medecins (CNOM), and the national board of pharmacists, Consiel national de l Ordre des Pharmacists (CNOP), require 30 days advance notification of hospitality or sponsorship. Details of this can be found in Section 8.3, p. 131. 

Phil Hughes MBE is a well known UK safety professional with over thirty years worldwide experience as Head of Environment Health and Safety at two large multinationals, Courtaulds and Fisons. Phil started in health and safety in the Factory Inspectorate at the Derby District in 1969 and moved to Courtaulds in 1974. He joined lOSH in that year and became Chairman of the Midland Branch, National Treasurer and then President in 1990-91. Phil has been very active on the NEBOSH Board for over ten years and served as Chairman from 1995 to 2001. He is also a Professional Member of the American Society of Safety Engineers and has lectured widely throughout the world. Phil received the RoSPA Distinguished Service Award in May 2001 and became a Director and Trustee of RoSPA in 2003. He received an MBE in the 2005 New Year s Honours List for services to health and safety.

This board promotes safety and uniformity in the construction, installation, repair, maintenance, and inspection of pressure equipment. It promotes safety and educates the public and government officials on the need for manufacturing, maintenance, and repair standards. The board offers comprehensive training and education for inspectors and pressure equipment maintenance professionals. The board promotes an inspection process through the commissioning of inspectors. Inspectors must pass a comprehensive examination administered by the national board. The board also sets worldwide industry standards for pressure relief devices and other appurtenances. The board investigates pressure-equipment incidents involving code compliance. The board develops installation, inspection, repair, and alteration standards for the National Inspection Code.
