Determination of ethyleneamines in air can be accomplished by absorbing the amines on NITC (1-naphthyl isothiocyanate) treated XAD-2 resin, then desorbing the derivative from the treated tubes and quantifying the amount using high performance Hquid chromatography (hplc). Sensitivity is reported as 0.37 and 0.016 mg/m for EDA and DETA, respectively, pet sample (153,154). 

In an analogous manner, reactions of 66 with 69 (prepared by direct chlorination of an acyl isothiocyanate, Ar-C(=0)N=C=S, 68) were found to form a series of aryl-substituted derivatives of 70, (Ar=Ph, p-Me.C6H4, m- and p- C1.C6H4, p-Br.C6H4, p-MeO.C6H4, p-02N.C6H4 and 2-naphthyl). Indirect chiral separation was performed derivatizing metoprolol, oxprenolol, and propranolol with 5-(- -)-benoxaprofen chloride, pindolol with 2,3,4,6-tetra-0-acetyl-/S-D-glucopyranosyl-isothiocyanate and propranolol, alprenolol, pindolol, oxprenolol, and bunitrolol with f -(—)-l-(l-naphthyl)ethyl isocyanate. The formed derivatives were further resolved to antipodes using achiral stationary phases.
