Naphthalene explosive limits

For the case where the inlet naphthalene concentration is below the explosion limit and where one is successful in producing phthalic anhydride in commercial yields, the mole fraction oxygen in the reactant gases remains relatively constant. This point is readily seen by the construction of a mole table for a feed containing 0.75% naphthalene, of which 80% reacts to give phthalic anhydride and the remainder goes to C02. [Pg.558]

CAMPHORONE (76-22-2) CjoHi O Combustible solid [explosion limits in air (vol %) 0.6 to 3.5 flash point 155°F/66°C Fire Rating 2]. Violent reaction with strong oxidizers, chromic anhydride, potassium permanganate. Incompatible with chlorates, naphthalene, 2-naphthol, dichlorobenzene. Flow or agitation of substance may generate... [Pg.205]

NAPTHALANE Note do not confuse with naphthalene) (91-17-8) C,oHjg Flammable, peroxidizable liquid. Forms explosive mixture with air [explosion limits in air (vol %) 0.7 to 5.4 flash point 134°F/56°C autoignition temp 482°F/250°C Fire Rating 2]. Reacts with strong oxidizers may cause fire and explosion. Able to form unstable peroxides when stored in air do not distill or evaporate without first testing for the presence of peroxides. Date containers when opened and discard or test for peroxides 6 months after opening. On small fires, use dry chemical powder (such as Purple-K-Powder), foam, or CO2 extinguishers. [Pg.757]

Roburites were also manufd in Engl by the Roburite Explosives Co, Ltd, who had the following formulation on the old permitted list AN 88, dinitrobenzene 11 and chlor-naphthalene 1%. The following compn passed the Rotherham test and was on the permitted list AN 61, TNT 16 and Na chloride 23%. Its limit charge was 18 oz, and its power (by swing of BalPend) was 2.86 inches (Ref 4)... [Pg.200]
