Nanotechnology emerging field

Given the actual scenario, one can state that the emerging field of nanotechnology represents new effort to exploit new materials as well as new technologies in the development of efficient and low-cost solar cells. In fact, the technological capabilities to manipulate matter under controlled conditions in order to assemble complex supramolecular structures within the range of 100 nm could lead to innovative devices (nano-devices) based on unconventional photovoltaic materials, namely, conducting polymers, fuUerenes, biopolymers (photosensitive proteins), and related composites. 

The Wiley Series in Polymer Science aims to cover topics in polymer science where significant advances have been made over the past decade. Key features of the series will be developing areas and new frontiers in polymer science and technology. Emerging fields with strong growth potential for the twenty-first century such as nanotechnology, photopolymers, electro-optic polymers etc. will be covered. Additionally, those polymer classes in which important new members have appeared in recent years will be revisited to provide a comprehensive update. 

The emerging field of nanotechnology is affirming its increasing importance day by day. In this context fullerenes and carbon nano tubes (CNTs) play an important role. These new allotropic forms of carbon have been discovered in the last two decades, and, since then, they have stimulated the curiosity and interest of physicists and chemists. 

The second advantage of a Q-first approach is that it opens the door to an early introduction of the modem and enthralling. Thermodynamics is perceived (with let s admit, some truth) to be pass6 the modem age is built around quantum theory and its implications for atoms, molecules, and materials. If we want to excite our students, then we are more likely to be able to do so with a quantum than with a thermodynamic function. Through the early introduction of quantum ideas we open the door to the presentation of modem topics, including spectroscopy, molecular reaction dynamics, femtochemistry, computation, and the emerging fields embraced by nanotechnology and nanoscience. In short, we have the opportunity to expose our students to the shock of the new. 

In this section we present fundamental scientific tools as well as potential applications relevant to the emerging field of nanotechnology. For instance, understanding the behavior of molecularly thin lubricant films via experimental and theoretical study of the physicochemical properties of ultrathin... 

The text should prove valuable to researchers and technologists in organic and biochemistry, especially in the new emerging fields of proteomics and nanotechnology. The future of these vibrant fields with endless possibilities is bright indeed. 

The emerging field of conductive polymers itself is indeed an interdisciplinary field, as the essential conductivity has well connected this field to other disciplines (which were not usually associated with polymer materials) from electrochemistry to electrical engineering. Now the emerging field at the interface of nanotechnology and conductive polymers covers a vast variety of quite different disciplines which calls for more collaboration between researchers with different professions and knowledge. The present book and similar volumes aim to introduce new opportunities by linking different topics involved in this emerging field.
