Nanoparticles chemotherapeutic agents

The gold and silver nanoparticles that are commonly used in SERS are small in dimension ranging from 40 to 100 nm in diameter. These small sizes mean that the nanoparticles can be incorporated into living cells. This was first demonstrated by Manfait and co-workers in the early 1990 s.[27, 28] They were able to study the complexation of a chemotherapeutic agent with DNA using SERS. Coimtermeasme research to date has focused primarily on the development of therapeutics, but little attention has been given to the use of advances in drug delivery or pharmaceutics. Weak efficacy can sometimes be enhanced by the use of better delivery mechanisms. NP systems that can bind substrates and induce programmed cell death (apoptosis) in vivo are very interesting and highly clinically relevant theranostic nanoparticles. The induction of apoptosis is a central element of the function of chemotherapeutic agents in cancer treatments, and apoptosis is a major pathway in heart failure. The protein Annexin V [167] is typically used to image apoptopic processes [167, 168]. Several theranostic systems have been developed to study the apoptotic response in response to treatment [169, 170], and cardiac damage. Such systems are mainly based on SPION [171, 172].
