NAADP

NADP can be converted to nicotinic acid adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NAADP), which has distinct functions in the regulation of intracellular calcium stores. The studies of these new roles of NAD(P) in metabolism are in their early stages, but they might soon help to better understand and explain the symptoms of niacin deficiency ( pellagra) [1]. [Pg.851]

Intracellular, ER-located, ligand-gated Ca2+ channels include the inositol-1,4,5-triphosphate (IP3) receptor, the ryanodine receptor (RyR), the NAADP receptor and the sphingolipid receptor [157-159]. The IP3 receptor Ca2+ channel is opened by IP3 generated as a result of G protein-(or RTK)-mediated PLC activation [159]. [Pg.535]

NAADP receptor Ca2+ channels are opened by very low NAADP concentrations but is blocked at higher NAADP concentrations [157]. Sphingolipid receptor Ca2+ channels may be opened by sphingosine-1-phosphate or sphingosyl-phosphorylcholine [157]. [Pg.536]

The nicotinamide nucleotide coenzymes function as electron carriers in a wide variety of redox reactions. In addition, NAD is the precursor of adenine dinucleotide phosphate (ADP)-ribose for ADP-ribosylation and poly(ADP-ribosylation) of proteins and cADP-ribose and nicotinic acid adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NAADP). They act as second messengers and stimulate increases in intracellular calcium concentrations. [Pg.200]

Exchange of the nicotinamide moiety of NADP for nicotinic acid, forming NAADP. Early studies also showed that the enzyme can catalyze exchange of nicotinamide with a variety of other bases, including histamine. Formation of histamine adenine dinucleotide phosphate was thought to provide an alternative to amine oxidase for rapid inactivation of histamine. [Pg.219]
