N-Cyclohexyl-2-benzothiazole Sulfenamide CBS

CBS is another very high volume accelerator used by the tire industry as well as other segments of the rubber industry. Just as with TBBS, CBS has a very high use because it imparts a significant level of scorch safety to the compound, a reasonably high ultimate crosslink density, and a relatively fast cure rate. CBS is similar to TBBS in that it too is based on a primary amine, which minimizes the nitrosamine problem in the factory. Also, the cure rate and ultimate state of cure are only slightly less for CBS vs. TBBS as discussed earlier. [Pg.277]

This MBT is reacted with sodium hydroxide to produce Na-MBT, which later reacts with the cyclohexylamine to form CBS, as discussed earlier. [Pg.278]

Other accelerators such as CBS (N-cyclohexyl-2-benzothiazole sulfenamide) can substitute for TBBS, but there may be some differences in the scorch, cure rate, state of cure, and other properties. [Pg.277]

Thiazoles are derivatives of benzothiazole compounded with sulfenamides. The benzothiazoles include 2-MBT, dibenzothiazyl disulfide (MBTS) and the zinc salt of 2-mercaptobenzothiazole (ZMBT). The sulfenamides are principally N-tert-butyl-2-benzothiazyl sulfenamide (TBBS), N-cyclohexyl-2-benzothiazyl sul-fenamide (CBS) and morpholinylmercaptobenzo-thiazole (MOR). MBT, MBTS and CBS are the more widely used. Because of their strong capacity to sensitize, thiazoles are less frequently used in gloves than are the thiurams. Nonetheless, they are widely used in the rubber industry, as well as others (Table 7). Indeed, MBT remains the most widely used accelerator for industrial rubber (Feinman 1987). Nonetheless, sensiti-... [Pg.704]

Solution styrene butadiene rubber (S-SBR) (Sprintan SLR-4601, Styron Deutschland GmbH) and acrylonitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) (Perbunan 3445F, Lanxess GmbH) with a nitrile content of 34% as well as NR (SMR 10, Standard Malaysian Rubber) were used as rubbers. The silica used was Ultrasil 7000 GR (Evonik Industries) with a specific surface area CTAB of 160 m /g and BET of 170 m /g. Stearic acid, zinc oxide (ZnO), N-cyclohexyl-benzothiazole-2-sulfenamide (CBS) and sulfur were used as processing and curing additives, respectively. The experimentally determined values of surface tension and Mooney viscosity of the materials used are given in Table 6.1. [Pg.164]
