Mutational approaches gene knock-outs

It is clear that much work remains before a thorough understanding of the complexities of the sialyhransferases and their in vivo functional contributions. With more complete understanding of the genes that encode the distinct sialyltransfer-ases, specific targeted mutations may be introduced by the knock out approach whereby in vivo functional questions can be addressed.
