Municipal solid waste, tipping fees

Scrap tires comprise nearly one percent of solid municipal waste in the United States and yet could provide a significant resource to many utilities. Unfortunately, landfilling has been and continues to be the most common tire disposal option. However, like many other wastes, the increase in landfill environmental regulations and increases in tipping fees have led the industry to using other options. The estimated number of tires in stockpiles within the United States ranges between 1 and 3 billion tires and approximately one scrap tire per person is generated every year... [Pg.232]
