Multiple reaction monitoring quadrupole mass filters

Multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) Selective mass filter Selective mass filter Yes Quantitative analysis Selective detection of target ions. Optimum ion detection mode. No mass spectrum obtained. Triple-quadrupole only... [Pg.50]

Quadrupoles can be used in either a scarming or a filtering mode. Quantitative studies are performed with the quadrupole working in filtering mode where only selected ions are allowed to pass and all other ions are filtered out . This mode is called selected ion monitoring (SIM). Quadrupole MS is highly selective compared with the optical detectors mentioned earlier. However, interferences may still occur if the analytes are from a complex matrix. In such cases, multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) with triple quadrupole tandem mass spectrometers may be used. Quadrupole MS in either SIM or MRM mode should be used as the instrument of choice for pantothenic acid analysis. In addition to quadrupole MS, other mass spectrometers can also be used for pantothenic acid analysis. [Pg.353]
