Multilayer geotextiles

One of the functions of geotextiles is to separate one layer, such as the stone base of a roadway, from another layer, such as the underlying soil, while allowing water to pass through. This is another filtration operation for which multilayer fabrics are used. 

After the filament bundle has been spread in the laying system (e.g., electrostatic system, gas dynamic stream, laying jets and blades, elliptic oscillators, multilaying with cross-moving directions), one obtains a warp to form a fabric with defined properties (spaee weight, width, edge width, individual titer, and thiekness of the fleece, etc.) and therefore defined end uses (eovers for baby diapers, heavy geotextiles, ete.). 

We have also seen new products appear that combine materials and are manufactured using the methods already mentioned, or combined with other geosynthetic products. These new multilayer products are generally grouped together as composite geotextiles. 

Mullen and Koemer (2007) described tests on a multilayered needlepunched nonwoven geotextile composite consisting of layers of different thicknesses and poro-metries to wrap and protect exposed pipelines from damage and sabotage.
