Swimming escape and locomotor activity represent more complex b viors. These are built on the normal p formanoe of early reflexes as well as coordination of multiple motor and adaptive behaviors. Since the significant abnormalities that we have observed in swiitming escape, locomotor activity, and wei t occur at 30 to 40 days of age (data not CMn), this suggested that the delays observed in early neonatal reflex and somatic measures may predict or be correlated with later bdiavioral abnormalities and perhaps abnormal neuroanatomical develcpment(32). [Pg.66]

To meet the 1993 Energy Standards, the industry undertook, at considerable cost, the optimization of the various refrigeration system components. The most significant improvement was the increase in compressor efficiency, from an EER of about 4 to about 5.5. Other system improvements included more efficient fan motors, more effective heat transfer by the evaporator and the condenser, and less defrost energy. In the early 1980s, both the Whirlpool Corporation and White Consolidate Industries introduced electronic defrost controls. Heretofore, an electric timer initiated the defrost cycle, typically every t A elve hours, whether the evaporator needed it or not. With the electronic control the defrost inteiwal is more a function of frost accumulation than of time, and thus referred to as a variable defrost control or as adaptive defrost. Mechanical transduction depends on activation of ion channels linked to extracellular and intracellular structures. Several events must occur when a motor action is performed. The acting subject develops the intention to reach a goal by motor action. A motor plan is made. The orientation of the body is adapted to the spatial position of the goal and finally, the motor system must coordinate the activities of the different descending pathways. Before efferent motor actions can be started, sensoric afferent information about body and goal position in space must be established so that the motor system is able to estimate the consequences of actions. [Pg.425]
