Mossbauer studies of the FNR transcription factor in whole Escherichia coli cells

In attempts to ascertain whether the 4Fe — 2Fe conversion also occurs in vivo, we have used E. coli cells, which over-produce FNR, and studied samples before and after exposure to air. This chapter describes studies of the oxygen-mediated conversion of the 4Fe cluster of FNR to the 2Fe cluster in pure ( 90%) protein as well as in whole cells.
