Monthly Time Series

In order to assess the variability of dissolved trace elements in the Amazon River, a monthly time series covering the 1997 hydrological year was obtained at the Obidos gauging station. As previously mentioned, Obidos is the last station situated upstream the marine influence.

Monthly time series of river discharge into the Baltic Sea were compiled by Mikulski (1982) and Bergstrom and Carlsson (1994). Forthe intended publication within this book, we have not received the necessary permission from the latter authors.

Several techniques helpful in studying CDOM fluorescence data sets have been demonstrated using a 13-month time series of fluorescence EEMs, DOC, and nuhient measurements obtained from the Horsen s catchment in Denmark. These examples illustrate that both two- and three-way chemometric models can be useful for variable reduction, visualizing sources of variability in DOM fluorescence data sets, and for predicting relationships among future samples. Using PLS regression, DOC concentrations within Horsen s catchment streams were predicted with an accuracy comparable to the error associated with DOC and fluorescence measurements.
