Monochlormethyl chlorid

When Cl is allowed to act upon CH, it r laces a further number of H atoms until finally carbon tetrachloride, C< 1, is produced. Considering marsh gas as methyl hydride, CH,H, the first product of substitution is methyl chloride, CH,C1 the second monochlormethyl chloride CH,CI, Cl the third dirftlormethyl chloride, or chloroform, HC1,CI and the fourth carbon tetrachloride, CCl,. 

Monochlormethyl chloride—Metkene chloride—Dichloromethane— Methylene chloride Chloromethyl—OH,Cl,Cl—85—is obtained by the action of Cl upon CH,C1 or by shaking on alcoholic solution of chloroform with powdered zinc and a little ammonium hydrate. In either case the product must be purified.
