Molecular structure square planar

Type II Cu(II), or low-blue copper, is less colored at common research concentrations. These systems have received less attention than Type I copper. However, even low-blue cupric copper can possess high molar absorbtivities when compared with simple coordination complexes of Cu(II). The Cu(II) sites in such proteins also yield Azz values normally greater than 140 G, i.e., more like that of low molecular weight square planar Cu(II) complexes (2, 8). The only available crystal structure of a copper protein is that of a low blue protein bovine erythrocyte superoxide dismtuase (9). The two copper atoms in this protein are each coordinated to four histidine nitrogens in an approximate square planar array. [Pg.266]

The valence shell of the xenon atom contains 12 electrons eight from the xenon and one each from the four chlorine atoms. There are four bonding pairs and two lone pairs. The basic shape adopted by the molecule Is octahedral. Flowever, there are two possible arrangements for the lone pairs. The first structure, square planar, minimizes the repulsion (the lone pairs are at 180° to each other) and Is hence adopted as the molecular shape (Figure 14.7). As a general rule, for a molecule where the electron domains adopt an octahedral structure, any lone pairs will occupy positions opposite to one another. [Pg.490]

The molecular structure of yellow crystalline Xe(OTep5)4 has been determined by X-ray analysis (see Pig. 18.3b) / the Xe atom is surrounded by a square-planar array of four O atoms, with the adjacent TeFj groups pointing, curiously, pair-wise up and down from this plane (Xe-O 203.9(5) and 202.6(5) pm, Te-O 188.5 pm). [Pg.900]

In their pursuit of determining solution structures of dinuclear copper complexes as carried out for complex (29) (Section 6.6.3.1.1). Comba reported complex (431) (r = 0.02 Cu-Cu 6.9 A, comparable with the values of 7.2 A predicted by molecular mechanics calculations and 6.7 A obtained from the simulated EPR spectrum).54 They reported369 complexes (432) (square planar) and (433) (Cu-Cu 3.35 A) as well. In order to give the usual overview of nickel complexes at increasing coordination numbers we begin with the usual square planar complexes of the Schiff bases salen and saloph.149,150 As an example, Figure 98 shows the molecular structure of [Nin(salen)]. [Pg.290]
