Reaction of hydroxyalkylbiuret derivatives 16 and diethyl carbonate yields 1-(hydroxyalkyl)-133-triazin-2,4,6-triones 17, which lead to the corresponding 1-(carboxyalkyl)-13,5-triazin-2,4,6-triones 18. Triazinones 18 afford 1 1 complexes with a series of aminoalkyl substituted pyrimidine-2,4,6-triamines, which form hydrogen-bonded molecular ribbons <99CEJ381>.

Bismuth also forms an intriguing family of subiodides, Bi4l4, Bii4l4 and Biigl4, which comprise a series of infinite one-dimensional quasi-molecular ribbons of Bi atoms [Bi l4]oo of different width (m = 4, 14, 18). There are two sorts of Bi atom in these structures internal atoms (Biin) surrounded hy three other Bi atoms only, at 300-312 pm (cf. 307 pm in Bi metal), and external Biex, connected to differing numbers of Bi and I atoms depending on BiaBra has a...

In the crystal structure of 1, the amide N-H group, which is in the anti configuration to C=0, participates in an intramolecular N-H... N hydrogen bond and further links the molecules via synthon II (Figure 7.2a). The iyn-N-H group of the amide participates via synthon I to form a molecular ribbon [10a]. Apart from the intramolecular hydrogen bond the stmcture bears a close resemblance to that of benzamide. 

Another example of a Diels-Alder reaction of benzoquinone 24 with a substituted cyclopentadienone 23 is the synthesis of a molecular ribbon (Scheme 7) [26]. The compound is twisted in two directions and does not adopt a single longitudinal twist as originally intended. Again, no route for the aromatization has been described.
