Molecular Architecture of the Compatibilizer

This characteristic feature of the compatibilizer directly depends on the content and distribution of the reactive groups attached onto the precursors. 

The two precursors are end-functional linear chains that lead to the formation of block copolymer (alternative one). 

One of the two precursors contains pendant reactive groups and the second one is end-functional, such that graft copolymer is formed (alternative two). 

The two precursors are multiftmctional, and branched copolymer is the reaction product (alternative three). 

Multifunctional polymers (with randomly distributed reactive groups) are much more easily prepared (e.g., by free radical copolymerization) and of a higher content of
